This girl (who happens to be my baby sister) is DAYS (hopefully not weeks) away from becoming a MAMMA!! We’ve got the everything prepped- including her hair color to welcome the first baby girl into our family!

How are we all doing with the added darkness? I HAVE to share what’s been helping me:

I ordered a Vitamin D light and have it set up at my station. I’ve been using it about a week and ya know what?

I have more energy, I’m in a better mood, and I’m hoping to see long term effects of less anxiety! Just 15 minutes a day can help and make a difference, so not only are you leaving your appointment with great hair but you’ll also feel like you sat in the sunshine for a bit.

Quick color refresher. Balayage paint through the top layer with a few wide vertical sections and a soft sweep of brightness around her face. Warmed her old highlight and new highlights up with a light copper brown gloss.

I love starting my week on a Sunday when most of the world starts Monday. It’s almost like I get a head start, I get organized, plan for the week, and already am 2 days in by Tuesday morning!

Who am I kidding, I’m never really not working or thinking about work, I can’t shut my mind totally off from it. However since returning to the salon post shut down I have created an ideal schedule for myself. Leaving 3 days by 4, one other at 5, and one late night that I work only 3-8. 🙌🏼

If 2020 has taught me anything it’s that you only will ever be your best when you put yourself first. How can you show up 100% for others if you’re not true to your own needs?

I love the unpredictability of New England weather. One week ago we had a snow storm dropping 4” and today I’m on the beach with bare feet and a tshirt!

Second session full highlight session for this blonde beauty.

We new we could get her light but the question was how light? Trusting the chemistry of the hair color and also her hair, I felt really good about where we ended up. And most importantly her hair felt really good.

As you can tell by the flowers in the background here she’s due to come back in a few weeks for a partial touch up. After this 3rd session we will have hit our goal color unless that is she wants to be even lighter! 😏

Reminiscing of bright summer flowers. For maximum brightness and a softer grow out- on this highlight I use a “root tap” smudging just the top 1/4 - 1/2 inch with a very light brown. This softens the line of demarcation between their natural hair color and the highlighted blonde creating a super gentle transition without bluring the brightness to much!

Where are my short hair gals at?

This is another example of a “glow highlight”! Short hair is quick to paint, takes less time to, tone, and style dry.

One positive thing that came out of this has been my confidence when wearing my hair up.

My hair has always been my security blanket and always have preferred it down and in my face. Since returning to the salon in a mask and glasses world, I can’t stand the extra hair in my face and don’t really want to be constantly pushing it out of my face while working.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’m newly obsessed with top knots, braids, and ponytails.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Maybe I’m comfortable because half my face is covered, maybe I’m turning over a new leaf. Either way, I’m digging the easiness of a quick up style, it has saved me so much time in the morning.

I saw a post yesterday that said something like- All you need is a good ponytail, lipstick, and a blazer to look bad ass. I’m adding earrings to that... sooooo lets go!

One of my top five favorite activities... highlighting hair!

It never gets old, it’s never something I don’t want to do, and I’m never in a rush to just get it done. When I’m standing behind my chair and I’ve got my rat tail comb (for the non stylists that’s the short comb with the long pointed tail) and a color brush full of lightener, I am in one of my happiest spaces.

Do you need some quick tips for applying eyeshadow?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
•Get a good pallet @Beautycounter “classic” pallet is my go to. All shadow is not created equal. A higher quality shadow makes a huge difference in your application and the longevity of how the shadow lasts during the day.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
•Start with the lightest color of the pallet and apply to your whole eyelid and just below your lash line underneath your eyes.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
• Take the color you want to be your statement color and apply to the crease of your eyelid and just above.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
•Use a medium tone from the pallet to help smudge and neaten the darker statement tone. Soften the statement color towards the inner eye with this tone. I like to use something with a slight shimmer here and also give a quick swipe to my lash line on the top.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
•Hit just under your brows with that lightest color again to help define your brows while adding a little brightness to the top of your eyes. Think of slightly polishing your eyes with this color and fine tuning anything that needs to be buffed out or blended.

Now your ready for a thick coat of mascara to finish the look!

After two years of trying to think of a new name for our salon, it finally slapped me in the face this summer. Le Petit Salon was the name given to our salon by the previous owner and while yes, it fits the space. It’s not me, it’s not our team, we don’t have that French vibe anymore. I kept it until I found something perfect, something I loved.

We’ve got Moxie- We’ve got grit, nerve, courageous spirit, determination, perseverance, spunk, vigor, pep, and know-how. We now are MOXIE BEAUTY CO.

I’m thrilled and excited to finally have a name that represents myself and my team; what we’ve been through and what we will overcome in the future. It will be a reminder that if you’ve got “moxie” you can do it.

Moxie also hits home for me and is a nod to my dad who introduced me to Moxie soda when I was far too young to be drinking soda, never mind Moxie…. and I loved it. While I’m not a soda drinker now I still absolutely enjoy a Moxie every now and then. Wyatt and his cousins have always had a bright orange Moxie shirt to match Papa’s.

Most of us feel a a bit better having our hair pulled back softly around our face and it’s better for our scalp and hairlines to be gentle while pulling it back.

Typically I pull my hair up or back getting it in place, then I loosen it up by pulling my out my wisps around my face. Some times I pull more like this picture or less like today when I only pulled out my baby hairs! Pinching a pulling out around my hairline throughout the style to add a little volume.

Nikki wanted as bright as possible leaning towards a cool neutral tone. Her hair is naturally daaaaark, so I kicked up my normal highlight formula and we were patient as her hair went through the lightening process.
